How to Make the Most of GSX 2024

Written by Haywood Hunter | Aug 29, 2024 3:00:00 PM

In a little less than a month, security professionals from around the world will pack up their bags and head to the sweltering heat of Orlando, FL, for the 2024 Global Security Exchange (GSX). Here, they will gather for networking, education, and technology demonstrations that are taking the space by storm.

HiveWatch will be there (at booth #1987) and we’re eager to take part in some of the time-honored traditions of the event. Here’s what we suggest if you need some ideas on how to spend your three days at the show.

See a panel (or two) and learn from practitioners.

It’s easy to get caught up in all the hustle and bustle of the show’s technology and vendors, but there are a ton of insightful, educational sessions happening throughout the show. (You can see a full schedule here.)

Some panels we’re looking forward to include:

Network with other professionals.

One thing about the security industry: In-person events are a must. That’s why so much of the business being done (and sales, too!) happen at these shows, where people can see technology and meet the people behind it face to face.

Some events we’re not missing include:

  • Women in Security and NextGen Happy Hour (Monday at 4:30 p.m.)
  • IOBSE Networking Event (Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.)
  • Blood Drive (all three days at 9:30 a.m.) – A great way to give back and help those in need!

Find like-minded colleagues.

The events above have some great people to connect with who are a part of groups that meet outside of trade shows like GSX, as well.

Some groups we’re planning to get to know include:

  • International Association of Black Security Executives (IOBSE) - Don’t miss their event above and connect with them at their regular events throughout the year!
  • ASIS Women in Security - This group empowers women in the industry through its annual conference and webinars year-round.
  • ASIS NextGen (formerly Young Professionals) - Open to all ages, this group is dedicated to everyone interested in transitioning into security, new to the industry, or want to support professionals as they learn the industry.
  • Command-and-Control Alliance - Dedicated to all things security operations, this group is near and dear to HiveWatch, connecting professionals who run SOCs/NOCs/GSOCs and everything in between.

Sample the tech.

It isn’t a show without the tech! Seeing new technology in person is the way to go (we’re doing demos at our booth #1987). But there are a ton of great companies out there to explore.

Some companies we’re excited to learn more about include:

  • Verkada (#1743)
  • SiteOwl (#2448)
  • Motorola (#2620)
  • Axis Communications (#1414)
